LMC Community Partnerships

A 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, The Literary Media and Communications (LMC) department trains students in different strands of communication — written, verbal, and new media — in an interdisciplinary program that encompasses literature, journalism, film, and community work. At LMC, we are building the 21st-century writer: a literate communicator who can move seamlessly between ‘twitter’ and The Taming of the Shrew, while self-publishing the great American novel and crafting marketing strategies for tomorrow’s ‘youtube’ sensation. Today’s modern writer must be a multifaceted entrepreneur ready to interface with the world by any means necessary.

Modern writing is not about working alone in a cabin in the woods. Our department teaches students about the necessity of collaboration. Your support is critical to this model. By joining our family, you make  a commitment to Washington’s greatest resource: the next generation of young writers, thinkers, and media makers. These students can write, produce, perform, report, and inspire, all through the power of words. Our goal is to provide myriad ways to share this work with the larger community.

In light of DCPS budget cuts (past and future) and recent controversy surrounding the school’s location, we are reaching out into the community. Here’s how you can help:

• Space: Partner hosts LMC events, readings, and exhibitions.
• Media: Partner provides linkage, blasts, and news announcements for special LMC events.
• Distribution:  Partner provides physical space for LMC products and promotion materials.
• Internship: Partner works with qualified LMC senior students to provide real-world experience in some area of the communications industry.
• Creative Resource: Artist exchange — workshops, lectures, guest editing.
